Guidelines for Essay(s)

Start reading from Ingwersen’s and Järvelin’s book because it introduces the background and concepts. The other two are ’article dissertations’ (Kumpulainen and Saastamoinen), which consist of an introduction and original articles. The introductions familiarize the reader to methods and results, so reading them is essential.

After familiarizing yourself to the literature, start outlining your essay or essays. Choose your theme or themes. The required total length for the writing is 4000-5000 words. Please, use normal referencing, the style is free.

Possible themes:

  • the goals and research questions in the task based and interactive information retrieval research
  • the methods of the task based and interactive information retrieval research
  • compare the applied methods in  Kumpulainen’s and Saastamoinen’s studies
  • the concept of task in task based information retrieval
  • the concept of complexity in task based information retrieval

Please, feel free to choose your own viewpoint! Above mentioned are theme suggestions, not titles.
